Marple 3rds (10) v Hope Valley 1st (17)

Hope Valley RUFC travelled to Marple and as soon as Marple kicked off Valley were all fired up for the game, setting a good platform for them to be straight back on the attack.

The Valley pack was dominant throughout, with a solid scrum winning their entire ball and taking a few against the head. This allowed Tom Hodgeson, from number 8, to pick up from the base of the scrum and mount Valleys first attack popping the ball out to the Scrum half Richard Spencer just to be tackled five metres out.

Marple then countered with some good backs play to get in to Valleys 22 winning themselves a penalty, with the windy & rainy conditions Valley were let off as they couldn’t convert the penalty.

The whistle went for a Valley scrum on the half way line, the ball was passed out to John Wing at fly half with an excellent run to break through the Marple defence with a perfectly timed pass to Scrum half Richard Spencer to run in the first try in the corner.

Straight from the kick off, after the Valley try, they pushed the home side back into their 22. The solid platform again was set by the Valley pack with a scrum to Marple which the home side scrum half struggled with and fumbled a pass to his fly half which Spencer pounced for his second of the game.

Valley were under pressure from a Marple attack after some heavy tackling from the travelling side, space was created by the home side to hit back with a try of their own.

This seemed to have an effect on the Hope Valley side, just before half time they battled their way up the field with some slick play from hooker Andy Woodall to pass the ball down the Valley line for Ben Oldfield to finish off under the posts, which was converted by Nick Hoyle.

After the first half Valley seemed to relax, happy to soak up some of the Marple pressure with some great defensive work form Steve Bound, Adam Corns, Adam Russell & Wingers Charmasson & Christoff.

But Valley let the home side in with a late try and after some strong words from Captain Martin Spencer, Valley soon picked up their game and winning all round good team performance.
