Glossop 3rd (20) v Hope Valley 1st (15)
Hope Valley Rugby Club travelled to Glossop on Saturday, the game kicked of with Valley fielding fourteen men. They seemed to be up against it from the off with Glossop able to use the extra man with the first try within 10 mins.
The Valley side started to attack with some long phases of play recycling procession, which paid off with a penalty under the posts which was converted by Nick Hoyle.
The home side with an excellent rolling maul in Valley’s 22 scored their second try of the game which again wasn’t converted.
Valley kicked off after Glossop’s try with an excellent drop out from Adam Corns putting the home side under pressure, Valley recycled possession again to pass the ball down the line to Ben Oldfield whose 30 yard pass cut open Glossop’s defence for Luc (Bang, Bang) Charmasson to finish off with a try. Valley again converted.
With the score being ten all at half time Valley was up for the second half with Tom Hodgeson, Andy Woodall & Jon Wing putting themselves around the pitch chasing any loose ball.
Glossop hit back at Valley again with a breakaway try finishing off under the posts which again, they couldn’t convert.
Valley had a line out in the last 5 minutes in Glossop’s 22. Called by the linesman Richard Spencer, the scrum half Jon Wing called a over the top ball which Andy Woodall delivered as normal, the scrum half court the ball and passed it down the line for Ben Oldfield to get a well deserved try.
Again the scores were leaved by the Valley side, going in to the last minutes of the game Valley conceded a penalty in their 22 which with the Glossop working well in the mauls took a quick tap to drive over for a last minute try.
This was a very spirited performance from the Hope Valley side with a man down and if they were up to full strength the Glossop side would have struggled.
