Final Score: Hope Valley 74 - 0 Buxton 3rds
It was end of season joy for Hope Valley’s heroes as they came through the final game of the season with a rampant local derby victory over Buxton 3rd 74 points with no reply.
The visitors began the game with real purpose and aggression and were able to weave their magic with some silky foot work carving a hole through Buxton’s defensive line within the opening 5 minutes.
They were rewarded early on with a well worked try coming from Cornes down the right flank capitalising on some fragile handling from the hosts and chasing down the loose ball well for the first points of the day, followed up with a calmly converted two points from Captain Spencer (0-7)
The visitors continued their impressive start to the game with some free flowing expertly handled passing and lightning footwork coming from Everard and Vice Captain Hodgson which allowed Valley passage into Buxton’s 22.
Hope Valley were proving a hard pack to break through and with Martin Spencer they were able to charge down an attempted clearance from the hosts own 22 and Berry lunged in low and hard for a crucial tackle down the right wing on his opposite number.
Hodgson continued the dominance for his side in the first half ripping through Buxton’s defensive dodging in and out of desperate lunging tackles and gallivanted down the right wing for another try between the posts and once again coolly converted by Spencer (0-14)
Within minutes of the restart Valley were again on the rampage with Hodgson making a lightning charge down the centre of the pitch giving his squad more possession and ground into their opponents 22 and although Buxton were able to clear their lines to half way Warren was able to launch another venomous assault on the home side’s 22 with a well executed kick.
Woodall was able to charge down another attempted clearance from the home side’s 22 after their lineout had been heavily pressurised and Valley were within feet of the try line. Rory Williams was then able to capitalise on a weakening defensive line and with quick handling was able to force his way down the right wing after excellent handling from Warren and eased over for another try and converted by Spencer (0-21)
The visitors were in full flow afternce again with Warren ripped his way through a despairing Buxton defence to cause yet more damage and once again converted by Spencer the score line read (0-28)
Dean was then able to add to the tally with a blistering run down the right wing exposing yet more fragile holes in the host’s defence leaving a trail of desperate lunging tackles in his path (0-35)
There was a brief glimmer of hope from Buxton’s forwards after the restart as they picked themselves up and charged into Valley’s 22 with some neat handling down the right wing but due to an outstanding defensive display from the visitors the hosts were unable to break through for any consolation points.
Moments later Dean was able to cause more havoc pulsating down through Buxton’s 22 and with non of the Buxton defensive able to old him back the score line increased to (0-40)
Rick Spencer chased down a loose ball within Buxton’s half with hunger and determination thus allowing Everard to race over for another try between the posts (0-47)
Buxton then stepped back into contention briefly for a 5 minute spell inside Valley’s 22 but were broken down with the visitors able to turn over a loose piece of handling in a ruck and with some slick side stepping and quick feet from Berry they rampage into Buxton’s half and Warren was again on hand to cross over the try line (0-52)
The second half continued in much the same manner with a neatly worked try coming from captain Spencer within the opening 5 minutes to help his side to an even greater margin of (0-57)
And so the score line increased further with tries coming from Adam Cornes, a well executed drop goal coming from the boot of Rick Spencer and with enough time to create one last try from Dave Everard and converted by their captain Valley were able to cruise to their biggest win of the season.
